6.24.99: The newest Jammin' O station has arrived in Buffalo, N.Y., where WLCE 92.9 FM dumped their alternative "Alice" format in favor of the new "Dancin' Oldies". I assume heavily that the station is owned by CBS, who also oversees Hartford's WZMX under the same "Dancin' O" moniker. The standard oldies outlet in Buffalo is WHTT 104 FM.
6.17.99: Some Arbitrend numbers for New York's Jammin' 105: For March/April/May overall, WTJM was at a 2.6, down from 3.1 from last month's Arbitrend. WQHT was, and still is, number one with a 5.4. In the same period, in the all-important 25-54 demographics, Jammin' 105 dropped just six-tenths, to a 3.9 from a 4.5 last month. WLTW (Lite-FM) remains number one in that category.
Also, as reported, Kingston, N.Y.'s WBPM finally launched their new Jammin' O-like format last week, as "Rhythm 94.3".
6.6.99: Contrary to what was reported yesterday, here is the official lineup for the Jammin' Tour, which will come to Philadelphia on Thursday, July 29: The Gap Band (You Dropped A Bomb On Me), The Isley Brothers (This Old Heart Of Mine), Kool & The Gang (Get Down On It), and a special appearance by Morris Day and The Time (Jungle Love). Thanks, once again, to Rob for the news.
Meanwhile, since it is dubbed the "Jammin' Tour", I am assuming it will hit other cities as well. Any information on it near your area, drop me a line.
6.5.99: The projected switch to Jammin' Oldies by WBPM in Kingston, as well as the "how come how long" situation pondering WDRC in Hartford has coerced me to start a new category in the reference list called "Holdovers". These will consist of stations that have a 50% chance or more of switching to the new format, dates where applicable.
Also, today I've received news on Jammin' Gold 95.7 in Philadelphia from Rob Lentz, who, according to his signature, has a show on Philly's WZZD 990 AM on Sundays. Here's what he writes:
Currently, they have hired a new "managing director"... He is Gerry DeFrancesco, who boasts of a rich background in radio programming, especially at KIIS in LA. He is in charge of finding a new PD and overseeing the hiring of an airstaff. The station is being consulted by Gary Berkowitz (one time operations manager of WJR-Detroit). They might not have an airstaff, but they are the local radio sponsor of the "Jammin Tour" featuring The Time, The Gap Band, The Isley Brothers, and, I believe, the Spinners. The event is in July (I believe the 25th or 31st, but don't quote me)at the E-Center in Camden, NJ (The Sony/Blockbuster Entertainment Complex is it's formal name). There is still a debate on whether the station is being board-opped or automated for the launch.
While we're on the subject of station-hosted events, I just wanted to say that the "Jammin' At The Hammerstein" that Jammin' 105 held last month at the Hammerstein Ballroom, with the talent consisting of The Four Tops, The Stylistics and Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, was a success, from what I've heard. They're planning a few more concerts this summer.
6.1.99: The rumor reported here about WBPM (B-94), the rhythmic CHR in New York's Hudson Valley, with the probability of switching to Jammin' Oldies, will become reality. As of June 10, WBPM will dump their old format and bill themselves as "Rhythm 94.3".
